Today in class we watched a movie called White Like Me. The movie offered the idea of what it is like to be white in today's society. He asked people what it meant to be white to them. No-one could truly answer the question. One women said it meant family dinners, but then followed it up with that all races do so. Time Wise, the narrator of the movie, is an anti-racist educator who grew up surrounded by African Americans. From a young age Tim's parents made sure that he was surrounded by all races. Tim spends his time examining white privilege in America and talks about his conception of racism. I found this movie interesting because we often do not think about white privilege unless it is brought up. This movie truly makes you consider the idea of racism in todays society.
This movie was especially interesting to me, because I went to a private all girls school. My school was prominently white. So I never really got to experience races being treated differently. This movie really opened my eyes to racism in todays society.
