Klansville USA

Today in class we watched a movie called Klansville USA. The movie was about the Ku Klux Klan in North Carolina in the 1960s. It talks about how the Klan flourished until federal and state investigators cracked down on them. Many White Americans joined the Ku Klux Klan in the 1960s, because they felt threatened by the civil rights movement. Many middle class white americans did not want to be at the bottom of the food chain, and they felt like they were going to be. The North Carolina Klan was never able to reach their goal of keeping legal segregation.

This movie really opened my eyes, because I did not realize how recent the Klans prime time was. It amazed me how many people were involved in the Klan, and their reasoning for joining. Some stated they felt like they were a family, and they were not alone anymore. Listening to the Klan members speak was truly eye opening to how racist they truly were.
