Today in class we watched a movie on the March On Washington. The March on Washington occurred in August 1963. It was a massive march protest in which 250,000 people gathered in front of the Lincoln Memorial in DC. It is one of the most famous examples of non-violent protest. This event is also known at the March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom. It's goal was to draw attention to inequalities being faced by African Americans. At this event is where Martin Luther King Jr. gave his famous "I have a Dream" speech. He offered the idea that people should be "judged not on the color of their skin, but by the content of their character." This speech is truly momental and still talked about to this day.The main goal was to eliminate Jim Crow Laws.

I find it amazing that so many different people of many different races joined together in support for one effort. I have never fully realized all the effort that the civil rights activist put into this event. Overall I believe the March on Washington was a great event that made a push towards racial equality.
