The Real Cause of the Civil War

Many people have different arguments on the cause of the Civil War. Some people say the cause was Industry vs. Farming, States Rights, Expansion, or the election of Abraham Lincoln. All these causes make sense, but I find it hard to argue that the main cause of the Civil War was not slavery.

The South relied on slavery for pretty much everything. They need slaves for labor work in the fields, which was the way of the South. The Souths biggest exports were cotton and tobacco, and they depended on slaves to help grow this. Slavery was apart of the Southern economy. Southern states also wanted slavery to expand to west. On the other hand many people in the North did not want slavery to expand. The North did not rely on slavery for everyday life. They believed slavery was wrong and evil. Northerns wanted slavery made illegal in the United States. This made the South fearful that slavery would be abolished. This caused the South to succeed from the United States. The future of slavery was a burning issue for both the North and the South.
